We construct an example of a non-metric perfectly normal hereditarily indecomposable continuum. The example is constructed as an inverse limit of non-metric analogues of solenoids. Theorems needed to insure perfect normality are stated and proven. It is shown that the example cannot be embedded in a countable product of Hausdorff arcs. 相似文献

Abstract Nitrite is determined by its reaction with a measured but excessive amount of pyridine-4-carboxylic acid hydrazide in acid medium (when the two substances react in a 1:1 molar ratio) and evaluation of the surplus hydrazide by titration with chloramine-T in the presence of acidified potassium bromide, the end-point being shown by the decolorization of the methyl red indicator. Nitrate, copper(II), mercury(II), etc. are found not to interfere, and the determination of nitrite in the presence of diazotized aromatic amines is demonstrated. 相似文献

This case study uses empirical data gathered at an Australian refinery to verify the assumptions for queue distributions before using special-purpose software to plan the off-road-truck hauling of titanium dioxide to a refinery (n = 773). Easy-to-use spreadsheet software is utilized to verify assumptions for queue models. Managers are able to make decisions based on economic implications of queue models to avoid making costly planning mistakes. Analysts can use nonparametric hypothesis-testing techniques to verify distribution assumptions for optimization without having to write hard-to-maintain and complex algebraic linear equations or nonlinear search routines. 相似文献

Abstract An enzyme membrane electrode usable for the assay of oxalate in foodstuffs is described. A commercially available preactivated polyamide membrane was used for the immobilization of oxalate oxidase. The bioactive disk thus obtained was associated with an amperometric transducer. The resulting self-contained enzyme electrode wich allows oxalate determination in various materials with minimal pretreatment exhibits a linear calibration ranging from 10–7 M and 10–4 M in the cell. The response-time was comprised between 20 seconds and 1 minute, depending on the oxalate content in the sample. The electrode-response was very stable for at least 4 months, a period during which more than 150 assays were performed. The results obtained with several food materials were in good agreement with those obtained with the conventional spectrophotometric method. Assays were also performed with a microprocessor-based analyzer normally used for glucose measurements with a glucose oxidase electrode When the analyzer is equipped with an oxalate oxidase membrane, without further setting, oxalate can be determined in the range 5 10?3 M-10?1 M in the sample. 相似文献

In this work, polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) protected silver grass-like nanostructure (PVA–Ag–GNS) with near infrared surface-enhanced Raman scattering (NIR-SERS) activity was prepared and employed to detect DNA and DNA bases. The PVA–Ag–GNS demonstrated high NIR-SERS activity and good optical reproducibility in the detection of adsorbates such as the case of crystal violet, DNA and DNA bases. By using of the tested molecule of thymine, the PVA–Ag–GNS shows a high enhancement factor (EF) of ∼108. For NIR-SERS detection of DNA molecules, Raman signals from the DNA bases of guanine (630 cm−1) and adenine (720 cm−1) are greatly enhanced. For DNA molecules NIR-SERS detection, Raman signals from the DNA bases of guanine (630 cm−1), adenine (720 cm−1) and cytosine (1010 cm−1) are greatly enhanced. The experimental results show that the NIR-SERS spectrum of DNA is dominated by guanine mode, which is followed by adenine and cytosine modes, respectively. Meanwhile, the NIR-SERS signal intensities of the DNA bases increase in the order of thymine (T) < cytosine (C) < adenine (A) < guanine (G). One can conclude that the adsorption strength of the DNA bases in DNA molecule with the silver surface is in the order T < C < A < G, which is different from that of the four DNA bases in individual molecule adsorbed on silver surface (T < A < G < C). On the other hand, the geometry optimization and calculated wavenumber of the complexes of adenine–Ag, guanine–Ag, cytosine–Ag and thymine–Ag for the ground states are performed with DFT, B3LYP functional and the LanL2DZ basis set. The calculated wavenumbers match well with the experimental results. According to our experiment and calculations, DNA base molecules adsorbed on silver surface via the intra-annular nitrogen atom which is adsorbed on the silver nanoparticle and formed metal–molecule complexes by the available lone pair. 相似文献

Site‐specific labeling of proteins with lanthanide ions offers great opportunities for investigating the structure, function, and dynamics of proteins by virtue of the unique properties of lanthanides. Lanthanide‐tagged proteins can be studied by NMR, X‐ray, fluorescence, and EPR spectroscopy. However, the rigidity of a lanthanide tag in labeling of proteins plays a key role in the determination of protein structures and interactions. Pseudocontact shift (PCS) and paramagnetic relaxation enhancement (PRE) are valuable long‐range structure restraints in structural‐biology NMR spectroscopy. Generation of these paramagnetic restraints generally relies on site‐specific tagging of the target proteins with paramagnetic species. To avoid nonspecific interaction between the target protein and paramagnetic tag and achieve reliable paramagnetic effects, the rigidity, stability, and size of lanthanide tag is highly important in paramagnetic labeling of proteins. Here 4′‐mercapto‐2,2′: 6′,2′′‐terpyridine‐6,6′′‐dicarboxylic acid (4MTDA) is introduced as a a rigid paramagnetic and fluorescent tag which can be site‐specifically attached to a protein by formation of a disulfide bond. 4MTDA can be readily immobilized by coordination of the protein side chain to the lanthanide ion. Large PCSs and RDCs were observed for 4MTDA‐tagged proteins in complexes with paramagnetic lanthanide ions. At an excitation wavelength of 340 nm, the complex formed by protein–4MTDA and Tb3+ produces high fluorescence with the main emission at 545 nm. These interesting features of 4MTDA make it a very promising tag that can be exploited in NMR, fluorescence, and EPR spectroscopic studies on protein structure, interaction, and dynamics. 相似文献

Enhanced harvesting of visible light is vital to the development of highly efficient dye‐sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Nanosilver‐decorated TiO2 nanofibers (Ag@TiO2 NFs) were synthesized by depositing chemically reduced Ag ions onto the surface of electrospun TiO2 nanofibers (TiO2 NFs). The prepared Ag@TiO2 NFs were coated with SiO2 (SiO2@Ag@TiO2 NFs) by using PVP as coupling agent for protecting corrosion of Ag nanoparticle by I?/${{\rm I}{{- \hfill \atop 3\hfill}}}$ solution. The fabricated SiO2@Ag@TiO2 NFs demonstrated a synergistic effect of light scattering and surface plasmons, leading to an enhanced light absorption. Moreover, an anode consisting of SiO2@Ag@TiO2 NFs incorporating TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) increased light harvesting without substantially sacrificing dye attachment. The power conversion efficiency increased from 6.8 to 8.7 % for a thick film (10 μm), that is, 28 %. These results suggest that SiO2@Ag@TiO2 NFs are promising materials for enhanced light absorption in dye‐sensitized solar cells. 相似文献

The highly Z‐selective asymmetric conjugate addition of 3‐substituted oxindoles to alkynyl carbonyl compounds has been developed by using scandium complexes of chiral N,N′‐dioxides under mild conditions. The thermodynamically unstable Z‐olefin derivatives were obtained in excellent yields and high enantiomeric and geometric control. The catalyst was also found to be effective in the asymmetric acetylenic substitution reaction of 3‐substituted oxindoles, giving excellent enantioselectivities. 相似文献

Three fluorescent probes were constructed by incorporating an α,β-unsaturated ketone to a coumarin fluorophore. The selective addition of sulfite to the alkene of TSP assisted by cetyltrimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) micelle can be visualized by dramatic color and ratiometric fluorescence changes. In CTAB–PBS system, the fluorescence intensity ratio at 465 nm and 592 nm (I465/I592) and the absorbance ratio at 390 nm and 470 nm (A390/A470) were linearly proportional to sulfite concentration in the range of 0.5–150 μM, and the detection limit was 0.2 μM. Good selectivity and competition of TSP1 towards sulfite over several anions and biological thiols were acquired. Probe TSP1 was used to detect sulfite in three realistic samples (mineral water, sugar and white wine) with good recovery. 相似文献
